August
Midnight took an unexpected turn
Sideswiped what I had thought all along
Scraped the top layer off and proved me wrong
By the light of the stars I could discern
My heart tumbling off its pedestal
The numbness was unforgettable
And when dawn broke over my bed
I was wrapped in all the things he'd said
Rejoicing in all of his dreams
While all of mine lay dead
