August First

Today I burned my tongue on the rim

Of the sweetest cup of sin
And I swooped in for
Seconds--Gulps of
Hell
To feel wanted again.

I find perfection in desolation,
Inner-revolution in destitution;
But when I felt him gravitate to
My nerves
I felt my headlights grind the curb.
It's you who read the space between shame and desire
And taught me our dreams can touch earth and go higher.

Darling man, it's okay,
You beat my challenge anyway.
It's I who didn't take the humble breathe to
Understand.

So here I lie with my legs closed wide
Wishing for nothing but you by my side.
Repeating ideas in each love poem of mine;
Craving and praying for a simple reply.
