australia i love you but...

australia,

i love you but,

you say we are one,

you say it’s equality and fair,

but tell me,

where is justice when people are

fighting for their lives

and finding their rights.

people hold honour in their flag,

about their nationality they brag

but once you differentiate,

others start to discriminate.

you say we are one,

living in a systemised society

in a place so called democracy,

but you judge us

by our race

judge us

for the colour of our face

you say we are one,

then ask them why they joke

about a racial man

you’ll hear them say,

because we can

australia,

i love you but,

being a racist is a norm

when you came by boat

and stole the land from “people”

from that day

racism was normal

getting checked at the airports

multiple times

denying our resume

multiple times

why?

because we’re not one of you

being a racist to a sexist, rapist

you’ve come a long way

from 1788.

yet, you never learn from your past

australia,

i love you but,

i’m sorry,

sorry we couldn’t reach your standardised expectations

went beyond your restrictions, stole your jobs

and couldn’t follow instructions

all this you’re doing is inhumanity

this will leave you nothing, but misery

you say we are one,

but you've lied plenty
