Authentic Childhood

Location

Cut offs instead of skirts,
t-shirt instead of sweaters,
earbuds instead of earrings,
is what makes my life a lot better.

Didn't fake a smile as a kid,
I even smiled through the pain,
growing up in the south,
you learn to live that way.

A child at heart,
hidden behind a beauty in a dress,
there's a girl who climbed trees,
with her hair always in a mess.

There's nothing more authentic
than a girl in her childhood
with not a care in the world
with a heart so pure and good.
