AUTUMN

Although the trail is overgrown with brush

the depth of field stopped wide open

the path steep and your pack heavy

you know the only way to go is forward

Towards the nighttime, a vast and starry sky

a hemmed in hole in the wall of flaky rock

climb to the top or at least as high as you can

smell the drying grass as it crunches

Underneath your feet as you stop to lay down

it wouldn’t be so soft

if you weren’t wearing so many layers

focus on your breathing open your eyes

Is that the Milky Way i ask

how can we see it if we’re in it

because you tell me

we’re surrounded by it

I’m not tired but you are

when you wake up the grass will be wet

with dew

the fallen stars that land gently on the earth

Coating it with wetness

starlight

when it’s time for them to return

they will.
