For Autumn and Patrick

I’ll thank the ones who tried to stay,

Through sleepless nights and irrational fears.

I hope they make it through the day

And don’t lose themselves to tears.

When I decide to leave,

I hope that none will follow.

Open yourself up to grieve,

But don’t let yourself wallow.

Know that you’re not to blame.

For it is my own choice.

Here I have reclaimed,

My lying, trembling voice.
