Autumn Dreams

My toes bridge the cool sheets to

Curl against yours

As October snow falls outside our thin bedroom walls,

I watch flaked silhouettes drip down your cheeks

Like tears or

Beads of water in our tiny shower when you

Press your nose to mine

Our boots rest below the lone furnace

Dripping into the carpet

Salt staining the blue to ochre

I reach my hand to trace your lips with my fingertip

Resting in the dip of your cupid’s bow

Your pink mouth parts, allowing your breath to

Rest like a feather in my palm

Because I love you,

I watch you while you dream
