For Ava

Searching for the right thing to say

To somehow make your pain go away

There’s not much that I can do

So I’ll just be here for you

You don’t deserve this

I wish I could empty the bags under your eyes

Let the music be your medicine just for a little while

Try to be strong, but it’s okay to be weak

No one can blame you for asking, “Why me?”

You don’t deserve this

I’m holding back tears

But I’ve no right to let them fall

When you’re the one

Who’s gotta go through it all

How dare the world keep turning

As you lie helpless on your bed

Fear in your eyes

Doubts in your head

You don’t deserve this
