Awaiting Dream

Awaiting Dream
A shadow unhindered
By that of the past and those who refuse to forget
From age four to forty the record keeps score,
The times unravel and those of us who grow old
Grow musty with avarice or hatred of our development
Praying for changeLonging for better or wishing it was different,
Every minute reminds, of those lost in worse times
Morality says pity, heart says help, but mind over powers all
Thus justifying our inactivity,
Blaming the rain for our reflection of the mirror
Convinced of the pasts culpability
But for a second the sun shines
For a minute someone smiles
For an hour someone talks
For a while some one loves
And soon enough the past fades,
A disgruntled, displaced shadow
And soon enough the lesson is learned:
To live in the past is to live in a nightmare,
To live in the present is an awaiting dream.
