Awake and ready

I was born a slave to society
not knowing the what the world had set for me
before I could even see what was in front of me
Growing up in slums that my white classmates haven’t even heard of before
like an unknown language
but my reality was my advantage
because I had a motive
Ten years later I was enlightened
while going to a Catholic school
filled with young men opposing my own color
My awakening was my strong suit
even with the oppression of my peers
I’m ahead in the right direction in life
even though I don’t have the riches and luxuries of America’s elite
