Awareness

A teacher pulls me aside.

"Your shirt is too low."

My cheeks flare.

"You are getting detention."

My heart races.

"Here:" a bright orange shirt "You MUST wear this for the rest of the day."

Everyone looks at me. Everyone knows what it means.

It means I did something wrong.

My body was maturing, I just wanted to wear my favorite shirt.

All these adults could see was an adult body.

They should've known I was just a kid.

They should've guided a child

                                                 instead they punished an adult.
