Away

Scratch, scratch, pound, pound
I hear something at my door
I don’t know what it is
Cold sweat runs down my back
I think it’s one of them,
I think it’s the undead
I turn and run away
Because I am scared to know
The truth about what is at my door
Is it a survivor searching refuge
Or is it a zombie searching for flesh
I don’t know and I don’t care

Just then I hear a scream
I rush back to the door and throw it open
A woman falls through the door frame
I go to slam the door when
Zombies start to come in
I forget about the door and
I forget about the woman
I just turn and run away
Away from the death
Away from the carnage
Away from my fears
I run and run and don’t look back

I find that I am trapped
Nowhere to go and
Nowhere to hide
All I can do is sit
And wait for the doom
The death and carnage
The fear I have avoided
For so long is catching up
Nowhere left to run
I can’t run away and
I can’t make it go away
My last choice is surrender

I must give into my fear
I must give into my nightmare
Nothing else I can do
Nowhere else I can escape
To, other than the truth
I must accept my fear
I must accept my weakness
And give into it
Into the pain and fear
My last choice is the truth
I can no longer run away
From it, it has caught up
