The Awesome Duckling

Once upon a time, there was born an “ugly duckling”

As he walked around the pond, all he heard was chuckling.

It was impossible for him to make any friends.

He tries to be charming, but he only ever offends.

The ugly duckling grew sad and weary,

But then he came up with a new theory:

Although he was not very pretty,

The ugly duckling felt he was quite witty.

He had dark, gloomy eyes,

But he felt he was pretty wise.

His feathers were speckled and gray,

But he knew how to find something good in each day.

His beak was awkwardly long,

But he could sing a beautiful song.

The ugly duckling decided he was pretty on the inside,

And that was something he did not want to hide

This brought the ugly duckling much delight,

He decided to share his findings that night.

That night, the ugly duckling embraced his quirks

On the faces of the other ducks, he first saw smirks,

But the ugly duckling didn’t care

He went about with his new flare.

Soon, the other ducks warmed up to him.

They even invited him for a swim!

They thought he was smart

And saw he had a good heart.

They thought he was extremely funny

And realized he was sweeter than honey.

This made the ugly duckling happy.

He and the other ducks became quite chappy.

They eventually saw past his appearance

And realized looks should not cause interference.

The ugly duckling earned a new name,

The “Awesome Duckling” he became.

He loved himself for all he could do

And all the other ducklings did too.

They all loved and cherished their new friend.

The End.
