BABA DZUKOGI; BRIDGING THE GAPS TO NEW BEGINNINGS // by Daniel Aôndona
BABA DZUKOGI; BRIDGING THE GAPS TO NEW BEGINNINGS
(Dedicated to: Bm Dzukogi)
Tonight, the moon holds the name of a great man
who journeys gradually to his sixth decade
and in awe, I am a witness to this merry transformation
praying that the heavens shall keep us all safe
to dine and wine on every glorious day.
Baba Dzukogi _ a model to my yearning heart_
he whose powerful words I digest daily for growth
for he nurtures me as I metamorphose
right under his nourishing bosom. From a seed,
I blossomed into a plant, into branches, into fruits.
Behold, when men of his age trace routes out of their homes
to usual joints where they sip wisdom from bottles of beer
and smoke away their troubles with rolls of cigarettes
he rather folds himself into a huge lump of living metaphors
where I and other lads muster on our knees to sip wisdom,
learning how to morph into the tenderness of butterflies
yet as fierce as the mountain eagles to soar through heights.
Say, my pen shades a dedication to a man of caliber, a man of potency
whom has served as a bridge to the realms of new beginnings,
he whose arms are always opened for the embrace of new talents.
