The Babe in Blue
Once upon a time
There was a man, there was a maid
They fell so deep in love
Their feelings never swayed
The man is me, I am a prince
In a castle I do live
I felt the want to throw a ball
And throw a ball, I did
I met so many maidens
On the ballroom floor
Some were sweet and charming
But most were just a bore
One maiden who did catch my eye
Was slim and dressed in blue
We talked and laughed all through the night
My feelings for her grew
Too soon the big hand did strike twelve
She shreiked and then she fled
I don't know why this happened
Was it something that I said?
I ran outside into the street
Looks like I'm far too late
But wait, oh look! I see her shoe!
So maybe this is fate
My men and I went to the town
To find my babe in blue
We looked and looked but could not find
The owner of the shoe
Until at last we came upon
A girl all dressed in rags
"She is our maid, it can't be her!"
A woman rudely nagged
I approached the maid, looked in her eyes
And knew she was the one
I sat her down, slipped on the shoe
The adventure had begun
We married soon and started life
Just two peas in a pod
We told our stories through and through
Hers.. was a little odd
She spoke of mice and one mean cat
(The cat her only foe)
She said the animals were her friends
And they sewed all her clothes
She said the night the ball was held
She traveled in a pumpkin
Pulled behind a team of steeds
(Who were really just her mice friends)
But wait. But how? How can this be?
This has gotten a bit scary
"Oh darling, don't worry! It's all fine.
I was visited by a fairy!"
It was at this point that I knew
That something wasn't right
I sent her to my smartest men
In the middle of the night
They did their tests and tried to help
Their resources were drained
And what they did just made her worse
She had to be restrained
I said goodbye (from far away)
There was nothing else to do
I blew a kiss and left her there
My helpless babe in blue
Once upon a time
There was a man, there was a maid
They fell so deep in love
And then she went insane
