baby blue fireworks

because i love you

i will still wish you the best

and hope you are happy

even though i am not

i will wish the best for you

even when you find another person

to help you fix yourself

and make you believe you aren't broken

because i love you

i still have the love poem

you wrote me

when you were still here

it hurts to look at

taped to my bedroom mirror

staring back at me

reminding me of what we meant

we lit fireworks in your backyard one day

and i was hesitant to stand next to you

you asked me why the fireworks scared me

i told you:

i have felt the flames of an explosion

touch me and melt my skin before

those colors are only beautiful

when you are watching from afar

it is not fun when you are the sky

it is not fun when they are over

because i love you

i will stare at the sky

in the scorching summer air

to watch the fireworks disappear above me

but that doesn't mean

i will ever light another firework

in your backyard

again
