A Baby's Cry


Early hours come and go Listening, Waiting to console The one on the other end Of the cries. Emanating through the night The sound echoes, Racing through my head As I make it to her side. She lifts her arms, I can only oblige, Her head on my chest, I slowly rock her. She calms And my eyes droop, We lay down, Our breathing in unison.

My inspiration for this poem is my daughter Olivia. We spend so much time apart that I cherish the moments when I can be by her side to console her.
