Back Off From Me
My name is Jane
Do you know me?
I’m just another girl
Standing innocently.
I love to laugh
And sing and dance
I’m studying to be a scientist
I believe in my path.
The boys laugh and stare
Catcalls ring
I don’t know what to do
It’s so frightening.
I can’t defend myself
Can’t speak up
Can’t fight against them
I’m just a piece of MEAT.
What do you mean
I’m supposed to trust them
Let them make the decisions
To make what I’ll be?
Set my path for me
Because I’m too weak
Too stupid to understand
Too womanly to seek.
I have my own mind
My own dreams and fears
And right now that fear
Manifests as he.
Just because I’m weaker
Doesn’t mean I have less value
That I can’t do what you do
I can’t think more than you.
Stop trying to stop me
I know what I’m doing
I’m strong and independent
Stubbornly pursuing.
This future I set
May be in the wrong
But it’s MY choice to make
Please do back off.
Don’t you dare stop me
My words, my mind, my choice
My perseverance to reach higher
To shoot off course.
I’m more than a girl
Than JUST another woman
I’m more than my tits
My ass my clothing.
I can be “bangin’ hot”
But damn it I’m more
This is just a shell
That holds my core.
I am JANE!
Smart happy kind
I have a personality
And dreams to fly.
Don’t clip my wings
We don’t clip yours
Why do you stop me?
What is your fears?
That’ll I’ll be better?
That I’ll rise above?
That you can’t touch me
Once I’m gone?
But I’m not YOURS to touch
To steal and violate
I’m MINE don’t you see
It’s MY world I’ll create.
So don’t you DARE allow me
Because it’s not YOUR allowance I need
MY future I’LL set
BACK OFF FROM ME.!
