Back to School

I was thinking the other day

Wow, I have a future

It doesn't just end after high school

There's college and life, too

You gotta get a job

Make some money

Own a home

Get married

Or so they say

And how do you know you're prepared?

How do you know when your parents tell you oh, don't be scared

It won't be okay in the end

That you won't just blend into the masses

And that all those high school classes didn't get you ready for anything

You're just a little kid in the dark searching for a purpose

Like is my life really worth it

And for those seven hours a day I sit in a different desk

I must admit I'm restless

I've got expectations on my shoulders

And it's getting harder to hold them

Because the second I walk through that classroom door

It isn't just four hours of homework anymore

It's four hours of why am I doing this?

And when I walk out that classroom door for the last time

Because it's graduation time

I'm afraid I'll drown in my cap and gown

That it'll be too big for me

And the world will see maybe I'm not made for this

So yeah, I'm scared to go back to school

But I'd be a fool to give up on success
