Back to School
Back to School!
Back to the shuffling of feet and the scholarly atmosphere and the welcoming smile of the principal.
Back to School!
Back to the anxous shaking of legs underneath desks and the dedicated tapping of pencils against desks and the fighting against closed eyelids
Back to School!
Back to the nauseating feeling of ovewhelming underachievement and the fluctuating numbers that hold a agonizing grip on a self esteem already too low from an angsty mind
Back to School!
Where getting an A is more important that expanding the mind, where kids don't know how to iron clothes but can spit the quadratic formula so fast as if their life depended on it, where children learn too young that the rest of their life is a competition, where America makes students their trophy in statistics that don't mater if no one is actually learning anything, where confusion lies between pages of an advanced biology book that they're hardly interested in,
where numbers on tests are more important than the numbers on a tax form they can't fill out,
where math is considered to be a smarter and more reliable subject than the arts
where underpaid teachers are incapable of teaching classes with 30-40 kids who are just as confused as them
where going back to school is more like a genocide of original thought
where common core determines ones intelligence
back to school
where no one can think
