Back in Time

Sometimes I look at today and wonder, How could there ever have been a time when people were treated unequally. Didn't matter how smart you were. Didn't matter if you cleaned up good And ate your vegetables. As long as you were colored you were Stupid Dirty, Ugly. Sometimes I look at today and wonder, How could there ever have been a time where you couldn't go to the same bathroom as somebody else. Didn't matter if the colored stalls was full And had to go as bad as the person in front of you. As long as you were colored you were Dumb, Mean, Nasty. Sometimes I look back in time and think of those dark days. The days before I existed, Where my grandparents were mistreated, Treated unfairly because they looked different. Sometimes I look back and am thankful. Thankful for Those who fought for my rights, Our grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles, Have paved the way not just for blacks But for Asians, Hispanics, mixed, for whoever and whatever. A chance for equality For you, For me, For all.
