back home
in back woods
back where
rain
smells like
more than sweat
and the after
taste of fish

but is breath
we breathe
infinitely

back washed
in back roads
and slammed
toes
in corners of doors

mamma
i remember how you
taught me to cook
here
in this kitchen
before remodeling
was done

before i left
and was gone

but these back
stoves
and black cloves
were ingredients
to love
one another
for more than one year
for more than one lifetime
but many

like these back roads
we drive
to solace
the stomach
pains
of homesick
and wicked
decisions

we come back
here
back where
rain
is the direction
to sounding of thunder
streaks
behind mountain creeks
and back home
back home
where we started
