BACK TO YESTERDAY

Out of the blue they come;

Faces that ring a  bell.

You muse- yes, you know them!

That look, Oh! you know it.

Speechless, then you discern

Your little, old schoolmate!!

The  golden gate opens

To a far yesterday.

Time spans and it happens—

You’re back in your class-room,

Gleefully, as if home,

Together, in no time.

The blissful moments are through—

You bounce back to today.

To what that remains true.

You watch you pal once more

And note the mutations

That leaves you in  wonder

The once ugly duckling

Is now a graceful swan!

The handsome prince charming

Turned to a worn-out man!

The vapid nincompoop

An ingenious top!

And you… just look inward

Does a tinge of spite prick?

If so, throw it outward.

Treasure the spur moment.

Delight, or share a pain

With childlike contentment.
