In the background watching closely

In the background watching closely

Don’t think anybody knows me

But somehow my eyes keep getting wetter

Pick yourself up, it only gets better

A boat in the ocean without a sail

Direction keeps changing, because I fail

Afraid that I’ll end up like a beggar

Pick yourself up, it only gets better

It seems that I give up, at every turn

Between strength and cowardice, can’t discern

Nobody knows who is the rule setter

Pick yourself up, it only gets better

I try to speak up, but I’m never heard

I only try, to get out a word

When it gets cold, I go grab my sweater

Pick yourself up, it only gets better

Though a fake smile is hard to attain

Others can’t see insides screaming in pain

Drifting through life, as if I’m a feather

Pick yourself up, it only gets better

I'm a High school senior that loves poetry and the way poetry can alter perspectives. I write more than just poetry and the poems posted by me on this forum differ based on the emotion being expressed while writing the piece.
