Backseat

I was so far away from all of them until you came,

you blasted me back with everyone else sitting back there

You basked in my glory as I was sitting there holding back my tears

You got all the spotlight that should've been mine,

but all I felt was torment and pain

I was second-place, second-best, I wasn't you, you weren't me

It was my territory you were on, yet why had I felt so home-sick?

All this time, I was too afraid of you,

Felt too threatened, but were you really that good?

I was afraid of the competition that I wish I had gone up against instead of sitting in the backseat.
