Bad, Ain't So Bad

In this community, my culture, and our world, a false sense of happiness is portrayed. We see bubbly personalities, bright veneers, and money thrown at these acts getting paid. High standards are set. Unachievable appearances and goals for the average Joe can't be met.

My Rx painted a clear trajectory: refills, torturous thoughts, night sweats, never trusting anybody. I became the walking, unblinking dead; a person not capable of feeling even pain. It is in this state I realized without suffering or clear eyes, even the good cannot be obtained. Unfazed by what would have been anger or grief, I walked through life not batting an eye at pleasantries or relief.

One must walk through darkness to appreciate the light. When we want to achieve something worthwhile, we have to put up a damn good fight. I realize now there is beauty in all aspects of life, even the utmost points of despair. Without these experiences, a person cannot grow or appreciate the moments when life seldom chooses to be fair.

Without the alarm sounding too early, sleeping-in would only be okay. Without your first heartbreak or rejection, all the future possibilities would be kept at bay. Not everything can be great, as the media portrays. Everything is awesome, even when it's not ideal. We are living the human experience and we are blessed to feel.
