Bad Dreams

It's about that time of night When we're all left to sleep When I try not to close my eyes When I'm trying not to dream. It's around too late to go To go outside and be To be alone and think To keep myself from thinking. I hold the pillows closely I won't let my head leave me I can't let my thoughts slip away Because that's when it happens That's when it'll change. The light's not gone yet I pull the bedclothes high I rock my self back While keeping my eyes wide Awake, awake, awake. It's gotten dark, and you Are probably deep in slumber But I'm still treading water I'm lost if I go under If I think about your face,I'm done for And it's not fair to you It's not fair at all Because I'll remember every moment And never be without it I'm not lost yet The night is not yet deep But it's getting later And my brain begs me to sleep
