Bad Memory
Dear Father,
Anyone who knows me knows my memory sucks,
I can't even remember if I ate breakfast,
I can't remember what jeans I wore yesterday,
I often forget what I said 5 minutes earlier.
I do, however, have several vivid memories
From when I was young,
But don't ask how old I was
I probably don't remember
Do you remember when I won my first real award?
It was a talent show in 1st grade,
Mrs. Long was my teacher and I sang "My Little Sunshine"...
Oh that's right, you weren't there.
Do you remember the boy?
I wasn't allowed to go play with him
So we played catch at the ends of our driveways.
Oh that's right you were too busy watching TV
Do you remember my favorite princess movie?
It was my first princess movie, I think.
Swan Lake is the name
Oh right, you never watched it with me.
Do you remeber the first time I sobbed at school/
A bunch of girls stopped playing with me
They called me gay and avoided me.
Oh right, that was after you left.
I could go on if you'd like
The rest happened without you
While my last memory of you was the lie on your lips,
Do you remember it?
