Badland Peaks

At the top of this rugged peak, I sit

alone, inspired.

I came to this spot in search of height.  A new perspective.

I am not disappointed.

I watch as I go unnoticed from the hawks below and

sway as the grass beneath me crashes

like waves on a confused current.

I am in awe.

Inspired.  Seeing things a way I have never seen before.

The wind assaults my ears with welcomes and

sand thrusts itself into my face like a million tiny kisses.

The clouds seem but inches away as if I could pluck them from the sky

like apples, and the sea they swim on is smooth

like butter on bread.

The river snakes its way through the land, murky brown,

like rich colors of paint rinsed into a cup.

I feel enveloped,

I feel warm,

I feel welcome,

I feel ready.
