The Ballad of the Concordia
They went on that ship,
a seven day trip,
to gaze at the sights,
for all seven nights.

The newlywed couple,
their marriage so supple.
The elderly man,
who fought in Japan.
The middle aged lady,
that just had a baby.

On they all went,
to their tragic descent,
for day one would be,
the last day they’d see,
as that captain would make,
a tragic mistake

While they ate dinner,
the situation grew grimmer.
The captain has hit,
an immovable rock,
so fit,
to abandon the ship.

Suddenly lights fade to dark.
“Stay calm,” the crew mates continue to bark.
Soon pandemonium would spark.
Down goes the ship,
people struggle and rip,
for a lifeboat to grip.

Dashes and splashes,
sirens and outcries,
all pierce the night.

Most come to shore,
but others?
The others are no more.

The couple don’t make it.
The vet with his grit?
His soul no longer lit.
And a small baby cries,
as his strong mother dies.

The Concordia they say,
Has made history today.
