Banshee Incineration

Hateful banshee. Horrible hag.

I see you rise wild and Phoenix-like from long-empty emerald hills.

Your demonic wail unsettles the countryside as you speed

Greedily, restlessly to my side.

You are not welcome.

But I can ignore you—I’m sure.

I tap the glowing screen in front of me.

A death cry rips my hearing. I claw through waves of disheveled, raven hair.

Your scarlet eyes flicker in amusement. Hateful banshee, leave me!

Gasping but soon normal, I return to scrolling.

Thick tree limbs crash against the house. Fingernails screech the window pane.

Hateful, contorted Lady of Death, leave!

Agitated but still defiant, I return to scrolling.

An icy breath flutters past my cheek. Chills slither down my spine.

A final, raspy exhale incinerates the hate-filled demon. I am free.
