The Barricade Between Us (A Letter to Cathy the Wall from a Slave)

Dear Cathy, I am solely judged by my structure, by my sturdiness, length, and pigment of my skin

I am much like you dear wall

Your scars and bumps are freckles upon my own soul

The pigment of your plain white surface defines you

Every day picture frames, stickers, and shelves cover you just as I am by my burdens

You are hidden behind bookcases, concealed under layers of paint

It is a human’s mission to undermine life and they have surely succeeded with you

Every surface of your bare flesh has been covered till you are no longer yourself dear Cathy

You now represent the people you serve, their trophies rest proudly on your walls and within this cage

You now bare their lives and achievements

Even whether you possess an electrical plug or not determines your worth, deems your purpose

A lot can be determined from a person by what hangs upon their walls

You’ve gone through many ownerships just as I have Cathy

We are both slaves to our fate

In your next incarnation and incarceration, Cathy, become a wall that does not divide its country but one that unites it like the long wall of China, the Earth Dragon curled over desert, forests, and mountain protecting its fortress and people

Your pieces my crumble but you will be rebuilt from dry brick, mud, and decay

The rumors and idioms you’ve heard told are partially true Cathy

Walls have ears as you well know and I have a wonderful aptitude for listening

We are dwellers of two places Cathy

We are servants to none in our hearts if not in body

We do not have to diminish our flames in order to keep our master's life running

They will coax us, but nothing will come

We are two pillars reckless and brave, our spirit will not die

And yet the stronger we are the harder we will crumble

And yet dear Cathy we will be reborn

Rebuilt in the next life

If only you were human, then you would have been my only friend

When nothing but dust and rubble is left to soil our toes, I am either terribly alone or completely at peace

This gap of vulnerability will not be empty for long dear Cathy

My collar will be removed forever
