BASE
She filled me with
life
And now she is gone
She took my life with her
And now
I am an empty husk
I am the dead one now
And until
I see her again
I may never get
my life back
I will scrape
What I can
from others
Grow from a
knobby kneed child
to a responsible
grown
old
adult
But inside,
I will never grow
from the day
She left my earth
This day will repeat
over and over
and over and
over
In her grave
Is my body
We continue our game
of hide and seek
through heaven and, well,
hell
She has reached her
eternity
Which was
home base
in our game of
tag
Her words never died
They are spoken through
My lips and
When these lips
Grow frozen as the popsicles
We ate in her basement
The words will live
on
Through my children
They are the children
that she never had.
I did not know
The dead could give birth
But somehow
The dead write our
future
I guess that’s life.
