Basketball

As I step on the court a wave of serenity washes over me

As I lace up my shoes electricity pulses through my veins

The game of basketball has always been my escape

On that court I fell stone cold

I am in my element

No worry or doubt can bother me

I am in total control

Basketball;

noun

a game played between two teams of five players in which goals are scored by throwing a ball through a netted hoop fixed above each end of the court

Such a basic concept

yet so much heart is put into this game

The hours sweat and tears this game has take from me is immense

The lessons learned though, even greater

The game is simple

Either you win

Or you learn.

I have learned so much from this game

My character has been built,

Patience tested,

And yes heart broken

But it has also humbled me

Brought me so much love

And so much exultation

This game has been my life for over 10 years now

Every day I try and put as much into this game as a thanks for all it has given me

Basketball has given me my purpose and my why.
