The Battle

At early hours, the darkness reigns on high- Held in its iron grasp, the earth is still. Only the stars shine faintly in the sky Through tiny breeches where their light can fill. The minutes pass and night time can't prolong Its faltering advantage o'er the light. The brilliant rays defy with morning's song, Bursting the fetters of the per'lous night. And now the shadows flee to lands unknown As dawn proclaims its vict'ry in pastels. Ascending brighter now upon the throne, The triumph o'er the foe it proudly tells. It cannot stay, this hasty truce intense, For twice each day, the fight must recommence.
