The Battle Begins Before the War

Thump Thump

The sight of the door.

Bump Bump

The backpacks hitting mine, knocking without regard

Jump Jump

Thoughts and excuses jumping through my mind, telling me why this is a bad idea. Why I need to quit while I can.

Lump Lump

In my throat as I grab the door handle, shaky hands and all.

My brain and my emotions, scattered together as I step through the threshold.

All eyes are on me.

Right before closing the door, my hand lingers on the handle, as if hesistant to let go of my final chance to escape.

Gulp Gulp

Steady breaths. I can do this.

Hello everyone! It's good to meet you all.
