This Battle is a Must
Looked upon as an underdog
Since the beginning of this nation
An awarding occasion
A battle beginning in the 50s
Years that seem quite nifty
But for the Black Community
Not so much
A fight for equality
For more opportunities
Walking with Berets on afros
Many families who didn’t know
They were panthers who walk with pride
Who never wanted to hide
Up and down the southern streets
While Dr.King preached
Malcolm X condoned violence
As an endless fuss
But here we are today
Fighting for us
Stuck in a place
Like a dog on a chain
Never able to amble
Through the fields of freedom
Now breaking away
This battle is a must
Keep fighting for us
Riots went on
None different from today
Tear gas may drop
Please do not stop
“Splash” against many backs
Endless chants of Yakety Yak
This battle is a must
Keep fighting for us
A new century
A new millennium
Black Lives Matters
Screamed day by day
Actions have been taken
Allies have been gathered
Races now scattered
Equality is here
Opportunity are given
A battle not yet ending
This was just
A fight for us
