Battle Ready

You look around All you see Is dust and fire The shouts of soldiers Your friends. You smell the thickness of smoke And the soldier, friend-in-arms That you shared so much with Turns to look at you. As you realize and shout He falls silently to the ground. All you hear is the roaring of your heartbeat As it beats out an erratic tune. You run to help But it's too late.
