Be Deaf No More

Tell me about the way he touched you,

the way he promised he would make gold out of silver,

an alchemist in his finest.

Then let me tell you that love was no good,

like every alchemist he just wanted to fix you,

you were never perfect in his eyes,

just a breeding ground for faux love.

Tell me about the way he breathed your name,

how he said it like a prayer,

even as he made secular sins

and poisoned pleasure from the midst of your body.

Then let me tell you that love was no good once more,

he was a bad omen from the moment you saw the sweat glisten on his body,

erotic and raw you thought he would love you,

but he loved himself above all.

Tell me, tell me, tell me about the kisses he pressed hot to your throat,

about how he said ‘I love you’,

about how he wanted to give the world up just to hold you one more time,

how I am just jealous that he loves you and needs you and wants only you.

Listen to me when I tell you about what I know,

a knowledge so painful that will only allow you to grow,

I have a fear of hands in the dark that clutch at too-young skin,

the sound of the screams still echo in my ears when he is around,

I sorry if I cannot hear his love for you over the sound of my fear.

Please understand, I know what this man’s love is,

and you deserve better than to be the canvas for the darkness that drips from his fingertips,

and seeps into the soul of pretty girls,

always

crying

no.
