To Be Free

Once upon a time there lived a princess by the name of Aurora.

Aurora was the typical privileged princess with wealthy parents.

All throughout her life Aurora wanted to be the person her parents wanted her to be.

She had no opinion of her own and didn't seem to mind except when a specific topic came up.

Her parents wanted her to marry a man just like every other woman in their kingdom.

They wanted another king and queen in the village when they passed.

She could never picture herself touching or laying with a man, let alone marrying him.

The thought brought chills down her spine, but not the good kind.

She thought men and women couldn't compare.

Women were so beautiful and delicate to her.

On the otherhand, she thought men had nothing special to offer.

Aurora would sit by her bed and fantasize for hours what it would be like if she could tell her parents how she felt.

She wondered what acceptance would feel like.

She wondered what follwing your heart felt like.

For years Aurora would never be able to build up the courage to tell her parents.

She tried to deny it and make herself believe she liked men.

It felt like her true self was locked in a dungeon 1,000 feet underground.

No one would be able to get to that dungeon unless she allowed them.

Aurora spent a good amount of years trying to lie to herself.

She kept denying it until she almost started to believe she was into men.

Instead of confessing her love of women to her parents, she ran away.

She knew she'd be looked down on by everyone in the village.

Aurora never knew how her parents would react but she decided it would be too big of a risk to find out.

One night she sneaked passed the guards and never looked back.
