Be Still My Beating Heart
Panic So much panic Memories came crashing down like a tidal wave As I gasped for air.
I trapped it in. Crammed it down. To the pit of my stomach. Till it would fit no more. It bounded upwards. My breath quickened. My body shook. My face paled. My thoughts raced.
Then there you where, A beacon of light though I did not know it yet, I thought you’d shy away from the mess I was Just like all the rest. But you stayed... You did not panic or presume to know, you did not ask questions, Or expect answers You guided me back to the present And when the brunt of the storm was over, You stayed with me still, You took my shaking hand in yours and did not coil away from me, Though I’m sure my hand was thrashing like a beached whale, It would have been easy for you to let go But you did not.
Instead you held it tight And waited till the rapid beating of my heart subsided And the storm inside had completely dispersed, Till the trembling stopped. And even then a while after, You made me feel for the first time that I was not alone And for that I cannot possibly thank you enough.
You stilled my beating heart.
