Be thankful

They call it Thanksgiving

But why should I be thankful

I’ve constantly lived a life

With chains around my ankle.

But wasn’t I in shakles

The moment I was born

Even after He gave his life

And the blood and water poured.

They tell me to be thankful

For the little things in life

Does that mean I should be grateful

For living through this strife.

How do I change my mind

When failure is all I know

How can I change my life

When my thoughts refuse to grow.

Yet I’m thankful for everything

For love and life and pain

For if I didn’t enjoy this

His death would be in vain.

Be thankful for each breath

Don’t curse the days when you’re living

For even in times of death

We should remember what He’s giving.
