The Bear in my Backyard

Oh, to be a bear

keeper of the meadow,

menace to the bees

with a butterfly on his nose

he sits patient

respectful

of things smaller than he

careful to not tear her wings

so though he lumbers through his world

breaks logs and hives and stems

he still loves the marigolds

and hopes the summer never ends
