The Beast
Running through the mist,
darkness swirling about me,
so unsure of where to go,
looking for a light, a way,
Panic sets in, the darkness deepens,
through the leaves, through the branches,
thorns scraping, tearing, piercing me,
the earth beneath my feet is wet,
soaked with the blood of lost souls,
what beast is it I run from?
Or is it I who is the beast?
Tortured screams echo around me,
from nowhere, from myself.
Regret gives rise to sorrow,
Sorrow is the beast,
hatred for the sins of many,
the sins of the self,
Look at me now as I look at myself,
the beast within always comes out,
there is no path, no way,
no ground to stand on, to run on,
the way is nebulous,
confusion sets in,
distrust, doubt, despair,
watch me, help me, save me,
show me the way,
or I am devoured, and reborn.
