The Beast of Night

I woke up one night

Twisted in the blackness of the sheets

Thumping my heart was,

A bullhorn in my chest.

Wishing for my wild eyes to close,

Shutting them quickly

But when I do,

I am choked by darkeness

And there is no way

No how

That I will be able to face the Beast of Night

Screeching, Thrashing, CRASH!

I try to shake off my fear,

But only to fall to my demise.

My shallow breaths quickening

As my very own mind becomes my enemy

Its taunting thoughts

Seeming not to be my own-

Clutching the sheets,

Enveloped by a startling cold that holds me,

Alone.

The Pitch Black has a stronghold on my life

The Night never leaving,

Laughing in its maniacal way

Basked in eternal torment,

I am.

Starving.

For a flicker of light
