Beasts

He was born to be free
yet there he stands
in a cage

While his heart soars
with the wings he doesn't have

He longs to be free
to find his love
his family
his home

You've taken him
from those he loves

You've given him
chains and whips
unimaginable sorrow

You call him a beast
a wild and untamed animal
but it is you
you are the beast
who would lock him up
kill his kin
and feel no remorse

He kills what he needs
not what he wants
he kills for food
not for pleasure
not for games

It is you and I
who are the beasts
You and I
who are the guilty souls

How can we call them beasts
If we are worse than them?
