The Beat

In this late apocalyptic life
I walked to the beat of your Heart
A thousand doves have died
By hands that have destroyed a thousand dreams
Her blood was necessary
His blood was not
Her blood was innocence
His seemed to curdle, to rot
The flows of water we passed
The ones you give barely a glance
I waited, stayed and waded
But never got clean
I sway to the beat of your heart
Let us enjoy
Our youth, our passion, our freedom
Beside you and behind you, I never followed you
Only them, those you disregard
There was always this trust, I should not have had
This faith, that was displaced
A fear, that matters less and less
Once I had a brick wall to you
Right there in our way
A hole appeared one day and you began to chip away
The bricks before they hit the ground
Crumbling into dirt
Reaching in you pulled me out
Happily, I let you too
Thus I walked beside and behind you
I guess I was always such the fool
