The Beat of my Life

As I look in front of me I tell you what I see I see the universe laid out before me on these Remo heads of this drum set As I navigate with the beats I make I fly through the stars on the ring of these cymbals that are symbolic of the crashes of my life that did not stall me Victory over all that stand before me A head above the rest sometimes I need to come down and rest from the form I take when these beats I make Sometimes I wonder why I was blessed with this mind of mine that I use to rhyme to the riddim of these wooden sticks that are extensions of my mind. Oh my What have I done that I have leaked the freak inside of me. Now I can't contain my brain as it wanders Down paths and roads I chose Wondering why oh why did I trip and stumble and ooh ah as my life crumbles But forget Grits It's time for me to bite this lip

I wrote this "poem" one day while thinking of why I play like I do. I realized that with each clap of the snare, each deep thump of the kick is an outward reflection of the constant but changing rhythm inside of me, as I go about my day I feel it just beneath the surface and as I put that extra flare on the end of a roll off the toms I express my passion and love for music and my gift for playing. Thanks for reading DJ Chewwy
