The Beat of the World

Some say it's a white thang, a black thang, a red and yellow thang,

it's even a rainbow thang. Can u hear it.

Some say it's country and western, rock and roll, jazz and blues,

if u pat your feet and clap your hands it's a funky thang. Can u hear it.

Some say it;s from the cold north to the hot south, from Hollywood to the big apple,

it never stops in one place. Can u hear it.

Some say it's rich and poor love and hate, joy and pain, it gives hope and dreams.

Can u hear it.

Some say it;s for men and women, boys and girls, young and old.

They say it's good to the soul. Can u hear it.

Some it's in the White House to the penthouse, the farm house to the ghetto house,

it made the jail house rock. Can u hear it.

This beat is you and me, we are the beat of the world.
