Beats

I watched a single woman beat a drum

to stop a man who beat a woman;

I watched her stand on solid ground

before a man who stood too proud;

I watched a woman beat a drum so loud

and women came and formed a crowd;

I heard a crowd of women beating kettles

and the beating stopped.
